Information > Characters > Kuwabara Hiei :: The long time rival of Yusuke, Kuwabara was always picking fights with Yusuke and losing each and every time. Kuwabara is very loyal to his friends and follows his own code of honor. He also has a very high awareness of the Spirit World or Spirit Awareness, and can sense the super-natural extremely well. When Yusuke dies, Kuwabara is a wreck because he needed someone to fight, and he didn't want Yusuke to leave undefeated. Kuwabara also became the guy to beat as he was the strongest fighter next to Yusuke. This gave him some problems, and the corrupt teachers at his school needed someone else to pick on with Yusuke gone, so they came after Kuwabara as well. Kuwabara helped revive Yusuke because he was a connection because of his high spirit awareness. He helped save Yusuke's body from a fire, and saved Kayko from some thugs making him a valuable ally for Yusuke. When Yusuke got his body back, Kuwabara was having some problems. In Yusuke's absence, Kuwabara was the toughest guy around and ran the area. A rival gang wanted the turf, and instead of fighting Kuwabara and his friends, they used a kitten, Kuwabara's weakness, as a hostage and forced Kuwabara to do their bidding. When Kuwabara wouldn't hit his friends, they almost killed the kitten but Yusuke made a grand entrance and started clobbering the gang after giving Kuwabara back his kitten, Eikichi. Kuwabara had grown tired of all the spirits annoying him, and claimed it distracted him during his fights with Yusuke. He had heard of the pyschic Genkai's great powers and so he went to see her. But Kuwabara picked a bad day, as Genkai's Tournament was going on when he arrived. When Kuwabara met up with Yusuke there he decided to join too, and together they passed the first test which was a test of how strong their spirit energy was. They were brought to a special arcade where the games would test certain aspects of their spirit. Kuwabara tried a strength game and passed with flying colors. But Yusuke was the next one up and smashed Kuwabara's score. Then Kuwabara tried a game that tested the spirit awareness, and he got the highest score among all the participants. Genkai brought all the people who had passed two of the three games to the outside of a forest. The next test was a race in a haunted forest filled with demons, and the way to find the quickest route was to use spirit awareness. Kuwabara had no problem here, and finished first. Yusuke almost didn't make it, but because he beat a lethal bat demon, Genkai accepted him. The final test was a tournament between the eight fighters. In Kuwabara's first fight, he was getting pummeled by a katana made of wood, and a piece broke off. He tried to use that piece to defend himself until his spirit energy extended the piece and he wielded a Spirit Sword. The next battle Kuwabara was in, he fought against a small man and beat him up. However the man soon revealed himself as Rando, the demon Yusuke was sent to defeat. Rando used ancint attacks and spells against Kuwabara, and Kuwabara held his own until he was shrunk. Rando started crushing and breaking his bones until almost every last bone was broken to bits. He threw Kuwabara to the side and restored his size. After Yusuke defeated Rando, Genkai used her spirit wave attack to heal Kuwabara's body and he was only in bed for a day before he was back to one hundred percent. The six months while Yusuke was training with Genkai, Kuwabara trained on his own. He met up with Yusuke on the day Yusuke returned and heard about his next case against the Saint Beasts. Kuwabara decided to join Yusuke again because he knew that Yusuke would need help. They were also joined by two other demons, Hiei and Kurama. Hiei was very bitter towards Kuwabara, but Kurama was fine with him. After the first beast was taken down, Kuwabara decided the second one was his. He showed the others his new ability to change the size of his Spirit Sword at his own will, and so he faced off with the white tiger Byakko. Byakko didn't think he needed to have to fight Kuwabara himself, so he sent some minions to do it for him. Kuwabara was getting wasted until he got an idea. He lured all the beasts in a line and stabbed them all with his Spirit Sword. Then he wrapped the sword around a tower so the beasts could not escape. This angered Byakko, and then Kuwabara started to mock him. It was Byakko's turn to fight ad Kuwabara wasn't scared. He slashed Byakko with his Spirit Sword, but nothing happened, and as his spirit energy decreased, Byakko's size increased. When Kuwabara was almost out of energy he noticed that his energy was pushing on Byakko to get out, because Byakko had absorbed too much energy. So he put his last bit of energy in to another attack, and it caused Byakko to explode. The victory was short lived however, as they soon heard Byakko's laugh. He called them in to his room of hell that was filled with lava, and despite the others' concerns, Kuwabara took on Byakko again. Byakko used his Tiger's Scream and started to corner Kuwabara. Finally he gave Kuwabara a choice when there was only Kuwabara's platform and Byakko's, he could either die in the lava or be eaten by Byakko. Kuwabara jumped to Byakko but didn't make it, however he used his sword as a vault and was able to reach Byakko's platform and knocked the beast in to the lava. Kuwabara was able to cling on to the edge, and they continued on. When three of the four Saint Beasts were beaten, the leader Suzaku tried to slow the four fighters from getting to his tower. He used Cultivated Humans to block their entry until they defeated them all. Kuwabara made the base of a ladder of bodies which Yusuke climbed to the tower on. While Yusuke was fighting Suzauku, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei worked their way through the countless Cultivated Humans that stood in their way. As they made it higher and higher up the tower, they finally reached a point where they no longer had to deal with the monsters. But because of the battle above the tower was collapsing. Kuwabara and the others made it to the top just in time to see Yusuke use his Shotgun with life energy that destroyed all the Suzaku's. But because of this Yusuke was dying. Kuwabara wasn't about to let Yusuke die and leave the rest of them, so he gave Yusuke some of his own life energy even though it was very risky. Hiei and Kurama brought Kuwabara and Yusuke back to Kuwabara's house where Kuwabara played a little joke on Yusuke when he woke up. Kuwabara was very skeptical about joining Yusuke on another case and even pointed that out to Yusuke. But when Kuwabara saw that a demon named Yukina was kidnapped, he instantly fell in love with her, and dropped his crush on Botan. Kuwabara insisted that he accompany Yusuke on this mission, and so they went out together with Botan. At Gonzo Tarukane's compound, Kuwabara and Yusuke mowed down all the demons they encountered, and Kuwabara seemed much stronger than usual. He led the way and after battling it out with the Triad, a group of powerful demons in the Apparition Gang, which hunts down demons, he and Yusuke encountered the Toguro Brothers. Not even he and Yusuke's powers combined could compete with the Toguro's, and they were getting beaten badly. Kuwabara telepathically saw all that Yukina had gone through, and knew he had to do something or die trying. He charged the Toguros and had Yusuke shoot him with Yusuke's Spirit Gun to propel him faster. With his trusty Spirit Sword, he cut the Toguros right in the stomach. With that Yukina was rescued, and she was very grateful to him. Kuwabara had one goal, to beat his long time rival Yusuke. However when the two start working together they form a close friendship. When he meets the demons, he and Kurama have no problems, but Kuwabara can't stand Hiei. Kuwabara has quite the crush on Botan when he meets her, but when Kuwabara sees Yukina all that changes. He instantly falls in love and would do anything for her. With Yukina in mind, Kuwabara is an even more powerful fighter. With his high Spirit Awareness he weilds the Spirit Sword but in many cases lacks the experience to know how to truly use it right. Kuwabara is very loyal to his friends and so that loyalty is usually returned to him. He lives by an iron bound honor code, and lives to prove others wrong.
